Beyond Nursing — Empowering BIPOC Nurses Through Storytelling

Beyond Nursing is a community-driven project spotlighting the experiences, resilience, and brilliance of Black nurses navigating the healthcare system. I was invited to visually document the stories behind the scrubs—capturing portraits and candid moments that celebrated identity, purpose, and cultural pride in healthcare spaces.

My approach focused on creating a safe, collaborative environment where each participant could be seen and honored. The final visual narrative blended intimate photography with contextual storytelling, helping Beyond Nursing expand awareness, recruit new voices, and uplift narratives that are often overlooked in medical media.

This project deepened my commitment to using photography as a tool for advocacy, visibility, and honoring lived experience.
